Dry skin is known for it’s sensitive patches and uncomfortable tightness. But with the right essential oils and carrier oils you can bring balance and moisture to your dry skin and tackle some of the biggest issues you face on a daily basis. Inspired by my favorite facial oil recipe, I wanted to talk about the different carrier oils and essential oils that are perfect for different skin types. Carrier Oils for Dry Skin

Rosehip Oil

Rosehip is made from the seeds of the rose plant and is full of luxurious skin-nourishing fatty acids. Containing omegas 3 and 6 this oil can help support tissue and cell regeneration. This keeps your skin supple and lessens the appearance of fine lines. Since dry skin often struggles with signs of aging far before any other skin type, rosehip is the perfect choice for dry skin. My favorite brand when purchasing rosehip oil is Leven Rose and you can buy it from Amazon Prime (holla 2 day shipping!)

Avocado Oil

This rich oil is pressed from the fruit of the avocado. This makes it high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that your skin will love. Also this oil can help to hydrate parched skin and condition the rough skin on your feet, knees and elbows. It contains fatty acids and phytosterols (plant hormones) that mature skin looooves. You can purchase this oil on Amazon Prime as well and I’d recommend using it in small amounts to enrich lighter oil bases.

Essential Oils for Dry Skin

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

This exotic floral essential oil is steam or water distilled from the full flower and can have an overpowering yet wonderful floral scent. It’s balancing properties make it ideal for any skin type. But it also has a stimulating effect that helps the appearance of tired skin, restoring a youthful glow. Plus, the addition of this oil to any facial oil blend can make it double as a perfume. Win win!

Sandalwood Essential Oil

This oil is steam-distilled from the heartwood of the sandalwood tree and has a long history in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for it’s amazing restorative effect on skin and emotions. It does a wonderful job of protecting and balancing your skin, bringing moisture to severely dry skin. Dry, itchy and inflamed skin is a huge fan. Unfortunately this oil isn’t a cheap one but it’s super luxurious and will do wonders to support your dry skin.

Chamomile Essential Oil

Steam-distilled from chamomile flowers, this essential oil is a deep ink blue color with a herbaceous, sweet smell. Just like the tea of the same name, this oil has calming properties that are perfect for any skin that’s overwhelmed. It’s perfect for sensitive skin and provides toning for uneven skin. This oil is perfect for dry skin that needs a gentle solution.

Cedarwood Essential Oil

This oil is made from the tree bark of the cedarwood tree and has a mild balsamic woody scent. Amazingly, this oil has the highest level of sesquiterpenes of any essential oil which makes it incredibly anti-inflammatory. This makes it soothing for dry skin and perfect for even the most sensitive of skin conditions. Plus its wonderful for lifting moods. Dry skin and emotional support in one!
