Essential Oils for Combination Skin - Fresh New Routine

Combination skin is complicated with it’s areas of high shine and dry patches that make balance difficult. But with the right essential oils and carrier oils you can finally bring balance to both the dry and oily parts of your face. Inspired by my favorite facial oil recipe, I wanted to talk about the different carrier oils and essential oils that are perfect for different skin types. With knowledge of these different oils, you can begin to craft different skin care products and use them for multiple different purposes in your routine.

Carrier Oils for Combination Skin

Rosehip Oil

Rosehip is made from the seeds of the rose plant and is full of luxurious skin-nourishing fatty acids. Containing omegas 3 and 6 this oil can help support tissue and cell regeneration. This keeps your skin supple and lessens the appearance of fine lines. Since your skin has dry areas, you’re going to show signs of aging before any other skin type. So rosehip is the perfect choice for balancing the parts of your skin that are more dry. My favorite brand when purchasing rosehip oil is Leven Rose and you can buy it from Amazon Prime (holla 2 day shipping!)

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba is actually a liquid wax instead of an oil. It’s known for being incredibly similar to the sebum our skin naturally produces which helps our skin balance the production of said oil. It’s waxy nature also adds a protective layer than helps skin retain moisture. Combining this oil with rosehip oil will help bring balance to both the oily and dry parts of your skin. Together they are the perfect duo! This oil would also be the perfect makeup remover for it’s ability to dissolve dirt and oil that clogs pores. It has an indefinite shelf life if you keep it in a cool dry place. My favorite brand when purchasing jojoba oil is Leven Rose and you can buy it from Amazon Prime (holla 2 day shipping!)

Essential Oils for Combination Skin

Manuka Essential Oil

This floral essential oil, steam-distilled from the leaves and twigs of the Manuka plant, it sometimes referred to as a less harsh sister of tea tree essential oil. This oil would be the perfect choice for someone who needs some help with blemish control without bothering the more sensitive parts of their face. Known for it’s antiseptic properties, it would be the perfect addition to any facial oil to help promote healing for unbalanced skin.

Geranium Essential Oil

This oil is steam-distilled from the glands found in the leaves and from the green steams of the plant. It has a powerful, sweet floral aroma with distinct minty undertones. Known for it’s ability to balance emotions and skin, geranium is the perfect addition to any facial oil blend. While helping control acne, it’s also cooling for dry, inflamed skin. I’d recommend this oil for anyone who’s looking to bring some balance to their skin.

Chamomile Essential Oil

Steam-distilled from chamomile flowers, this essential oil is a deep ink blue color with a herbaceous, sweet smell. Just like the tea of the same name, this oil has calming properties that are perfect for any skin that’s overwhelmed. It’s perfect for sensitive skin and provides toning for uneven skin. This oil is perfect for combination skin that needs a gentle solution.

Cedarwood Essential Oil

This oil is made from the tree bark of the cedarwood tree and has a mild balsamic woody scent. Amazingly, this oil has the highest level of sesquiterpenes of any essential oil which makes it incredibly anti-inflammatory. This makes it soothing for any dry patches and perfect for even the most sensitive of skin conditions. Plus its wonderful for lifting moods. Skin and emotional support in one!
